Here’s what I came up with for today’s “ten minute writing exercise”. It’s a horrible poem, but parts of it could be salvageable if I ever decide to really ‘revamp’ it. Thoughts?

Crumbling beauty seen from afar
Eternal reminder of a time once was
Its skeleton etched into the earth
Unmoving but not unspoken

Legends of battles and maidens
Knights of armor giving their lives for love
Romanticized traditions convoluted through time
Hidden are the truths of an age long passed

Long forgotten its decay evident
The ascent of ivy, the spill of rocks
Shattered windows of arrayed rainbows
Magnificence even in its squalor

A castle stands as proof that
Even with age
Even with devastation
Even with romanticized visions
It survives and remains a pillar of strength
A memory of what it once was and still is
